PEAK DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK BOUNDARY WALK

Route taken by John Merrill – July 10 to 20. 1975.

Basically using the nearest right of way – path/track/lane or road to the boundary. Part of my training programme preparing for a 2,200 mile walk, linking the then 10 National Parks, major National Trails and highest peaks in one continuous walk.

Start and end – Ashbourne.

Day One – 20 miles - Ashbourne – Tissington Trail – Mapleton – Okeover Bridge – Manifold River – Coldwall Bridge – Blore – Calton – Waterhouses – Waterfall - River Hamps – Ford – BankTop – Onecote – Old Mixon Hay – Thorncliffe – Upper Hulme – CAMP

Day Two – 23 miles - – Upper Hulme – Whitty Lane – Meerbrook – Redshaw – Hawksley Farm – Hollinhall – River Dane – Cartlidge Wood – Min-End Lane (Wincle Minn) – Butterlands – Fourways – Brown Hill – Haddon Farm – Ridgegate reservoir – Langley – Clough House – Walkers Barn – Brink Farm – Rainow – CAMP

Day Three – 21 miles - Rainow – Oakenbank – Pott Shrigley – Moorside Quarry – Moorside Lane – Birchencliffe – West Parkgate – Lyme Park – Crow Wood – Elmerhurst Cottage – Bollinghurst Brook – Cockhead – Bollinghurst Reservoir – Dissop Head – Todd Brook – Cliff - Kishfield Bridge – Gap House – Taxal – Shallcross Wood – Folds Farm – Elnor Lane Farm – Long Lane – Combs – Allstone Lee – Combs Moss – White Hall Centre – CAMP.

Day Four – 20 miles - White Hall Centre – Round the Bend – Roman Road – Nithen End – Watford Wood – Burbage Reservoir – A53 – Leap Edge – Hind Low – Hurdlow Grange – Street Farm – Pomeroy – CAMP

Day Five – 26 miles - Pomeroy – Sterndale Moor – A515 – Cowdale – Red Gap Farm – Wood Dale – Wye Dale – Mosely Farm – Old Moor – Tunstead – Small Knowle End – Small Dale – Bee Low – Ridgeclose Farm – Barmoor Clough – Blackbrook – Bowden Hall – Breckend – White Knowl Farm – Moseley House – Over Hill Road – Moor Lodge – Phoside Farm – Bowden – CAMP

Overall mileage – 262 miles, but pedometer reading was 275 miles.
